Schenley Park is the scene of our nation’s largest vintage race event. 150 vintage racers gather here each July to test their skills and entertain the crowd. The PVGP races through Schenley Park are considered by many drivers to be the most challenging race course worldwide. The 2.33 mile circuit has 23 turns not to mention haybales, manhole covers, phone poles and stone walls. The Grand Prix in Schenley Park is the only vintage race event that is run on actual city streets – made possible by our Pit Crew of 1,000 volunteers.
The best place to watch the races is from the 456 acre Bob O’Connor Golf Course where the Grand Prix stages an International Car Show with over 2,000 vehicles on display. These car shows are mainly supported by local car clubs but are also open to the public for only $30 for the weekend. In addition to the car shows there are dozens of sponsor tents, a village full of vendors and plenty of food and refreshment vendors. 200,000 spectators are expected to come out and watch the races – there is no cost for spectators to enter, but we do encourage donations. Proceeds from the event benefit charity.
There is so much that happens on the Race Weekend in Schenley Park that we can’t fit it all on one page – so here are some quick links to individual events that occur over the weekend.
There are practice/warm-up sessions each morning. Qualifying races take place on Saturday with the Featured Races on Sunday. Both afternoons feature exciting racing as groups are separated by engine size and year of manufacture. There is little difference to spectators between Saturday’s and Sunday’s track action as over 175 cars will compete.

We survived Carlisle!!! Held during the first weekend of June in Carlisle Pennsylvania, the Ford Nationals IS the place to be for viewing almost 100 acres of FoMoCo products. 2018 marks our tenth consecutive year hosting Saleen owners during this Pennsylvania landmark event. This year we saw the introduction of Team Saleen as well as an inspired return of both Saleen Automotive and Steve Saleen.
There were an estimated 64 (under 70) Saleen manufactured vehicles on the fairgrounds to proudly display Power In The Hands of a Few to all showgoers. Our collection of Saleen vehicles ranged from the early “four-eyed” 1985-86 editions to the latest trifecta of S302 Black, Yellow and White Labels. With a side dish of those rare vintage XP Explorers and Saleen Foci.
Event support appreciation to Rudy & Betsy Beyer for their effort operating the SOEC tent and appreciation to all participants, enthusiasts and owners that makes this event so exceptional.

MEET STEVE SALEEN OF SALEEN AUTOMOTIVE
Hall of Famer Comes to Carlisle During Ford Weekend
A very popular name within automotive circles is coming to Carlisle courtesy of Saleen Automotive. Steve Saleen was born in California and attended USC, earning a degree in business. He parlayed his education into a booming career that saw him work with the Porsche Owners Club before becoming a competitive racer. In 1980, he entered the Formula Atlantic series and was third in the final series standings. After that, he advanced to the SCCA Trans-Am series in ’82, driving a Ford Mustang. From there, his passion for the Mustang grew immensely, culminating with the founding of Saleen Autosport in 1983 and subsequent building of the first Saleen Mustang.
In 1984, the car was completed, tested and raced against some of the world’s top cars, finishing first in its class at the Mosport 24 hour endurance race. Years later, Saleen formed a race team with comedian Tim Allen and driver Bob Bondurant. The three raced Saleen Mustangs in the SCAA World Challenge. Inducted into the Mustang Hall of Fame in 1996 along side Carroll Shelby, Saleen remains active today, primarily with his namesake company, Saleen Inc.
Since establishing Saleen Automotive, the company has gone on to build countless Mustangs and Ford products. Saleen cars and trucks are seen as one of the top brands in the Ford market. Saleen also had a hand in the 2005-2006 Ford GT cars. Don’t miss out as Steve Saleen meets and greets with enthusiasts and does an autograph signing or two.
