STEVE SALEEN CONGRATULATES LARBRE COMPETITION ON LEMANS WIN WITH SALEEN S7R

Orange County, California / LeMans, France. (June 13, 2010) Today, Steve Saleen, the man who founded Saleen, Inc, and who created America’s most successful racecar, the Saleen S7R, congratulated Larbre Competition boss Jack Leconte to winning the GT1 class of this year’s 24 hours of LeMans in the Saleen S7R.

Says Steve Saleen: “The Saleen S7R is the most successful racing car ever to come out of the United States. After having won at virtually every major race track in the world, the win at LeMans represents the crown of motor racing. We would like to congratulate Jack Leconte and his drivers Roland Bervillé, Julien Canal and Gabriele Gardel to this extraordinary achievement. The almost entirely trouble-free race for the Saleen S7R underlines the excellence of this almost ten year old design.”

The Saleen S7 was launched in August of 2000 at Pebble Beach by Steve Saleen as the world’s fastest road car of its time. The S7R race version was introduced shortly afterwards, winning in 2001 all of the four championships which it competed in: the driver’s championship of the American and European LeMans Series’, the American Grand Am Series and the FIA GT Championship. Since then, the S7R has competed in numerous races and championships and has won at least once in every year since. This year, team Larbre Competition competed in LeMans with the S7R in the GT1 class, where it won against the 2nd placed Corvette C6, an Aston Martin DBR9R on 3rd as well as the Lamborghini Murciélago and the Ford GT. Further information about the S7 and the S7R success can be found on Steve Saleen’s website www.smssupercars.com.

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO STEVE SALEEN?

By: MIKE MONTICELLO on June 8, 2010
Original Article: ROAD & TRACK – BUSINESS

The famous Mustang tuner, and former builder of the awe-inspiring twin-turbo Saleen S7, is back in business at a new facility in Corona, California, that’s what. But his new company, called SMS Supercars (“SMS” stands for Steve M. Saleen), is no longer so Ford- and Mustang-centric. Besides building its own version of the 2011 Mustang GT (SMS has managed to massage the new 5.0 to 450 normally aspirated horsepower, up from 412 bhp), SMS is tuning Dodge Challengers and will soon tackle the Chevrolet Camaro.

Work is ongoing at the 150,000 square-foot facility, but so far it looks like Saleen has some great new digs. I especially got a kick out of the fact that everyone’s office is named after a famous race track. Heck, they even named a staircase The Corkscrew, in honor of the famous elevation-dropping turn complex at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

By the way, that’s Steve Saleen standing in front of an SMS 570 Challenger, which makes 500 bhp and 500 lb.-ft. of torque due to an SMS 296 supercharger system. And that green paint? It’s an SMS-exclusive color called Sour Apple Green. It might be a good guess that Road & Track will be testing this car soon. Stay tuned for performance numbers.

It also might be a good guess that Saleen has even bigger plans down the road, meaning something along the lines of another S7-type performance car. His words: “I didn’t call it SMS Supercars for no reason.”

“THERE IS ONLY ONE SALEEN” SAYS STEVE SALEEN AS HE TAKES ACTION TO PROTECT HIS NAME

Orange County, California. (July 17, 2009) Steve Saleen and his company, Steve Saleen’s SMS Supercars, announced today that they have filed a lawsuit in the Superior Court in California, seeking an order directing MJ Acquisitions, Inc. to cease and desist from promoting their products under the Saleen name in any form. Concurrently, Mr. Saleen is also seeking additional, related remedies from the company that formerly carried his name. This action is an additional move to continue to protect the name, reputation and brand value of Steve Saleen, and to reassure his loyal customers, dealers and car enthusiasts that only Steve Saleen’s SMS Supercar performance vehicles and products are genuine and deserving to carry his name. Steve Saleen ceded control of the company he founded, Saleen, Inc., in 2003 and left it completely in the spring of 2007 without any further management association. The non-enthusiast corporate executives sold a number of assets to a company by the name of MJ Acquisitions, Inc., changed the company’s name, and in early 2009 ceased operations altogether.

True Steve Saleen performance vehicles again available in the market

After having left his previous company, Mr. Saleen started Steve Saleen’s SMS Supercars in 2008 and unveiled his newest creation, the SMS 570 Challenger, in January of this year. After having participated in the 2009 National American Dealers Association show as part of the official Chrysler Group display, Steve Saleen’s SMS Supercars successfully launched the SMS 570X Challenger and the new SMS 296 Supercharger at the New York International Auto Show in April of 2009, where many media ranked them among the stars of the show. Steve Saleen’s SMS 460 and 460X Mustangs were announced at the 45th Mustang Anniversary show in Alabama in April, with more info and images to be released this weekend at the Mustangs Northwest Roundup in Seattle and during the 2009 Mustang Week in Myrtle Beach starting Monday, July 20.

Steve Saleen steps up and protects his brand, name, reputation and customers “SMS Supercars is the new Saleen” (Steve Saleen)

In April 2009, Steve Saleen announced support for his customers and dealers affected negatively by the demise of the company that long carried his name. In a statement issued in April, he said: “The company I launched a long time ago announced it will no longer honor its product warranties, nor will the acquiring company for those assets, MJ Acquisitions, Inc. This kind of ‘customer treatment’ damages my reputation, misleads customers and cannot be left unaddressed.” Steve Saleen announced that SMS Supercars would guarantee the warranties that MJ Acquisitions abandoned. Mr. Saleen went on to say: “It amuses me that faceless executives and wannabes are trying to misrepresent themselves as some kind of continuation of Saleen, which they are not. SMS Supercars is the true Saleen. It is the only company I endorse, the only company entitled to use my name and legacy, and the only company that carries my signature on its products, because they are my products. The legal action we have undertaken today will emphasize once and for all that the only genuine Saleen products are mine.

STEVE SALEEN AND SMS SUPERCARS EXTENDS WARRANTY SUPPORT TO LOYAL CUSTOMERS

Breaking News by SOEC Staff — Orange County, California — April 2, 2009 — In an unusual step, SMS Supercars Chairman and CEO, Steve M. Saleen, announced to Saleen Owners and Enthusiasts Club members a new and bold measure today with regards to customer warranties on products produced by his former company, Saleen, Inc.

Recently Saleen Inc. announced it has ceased all operations, claims it has sold certain assets to MJ Acquisitions, Inc., and has even changed its name. In a statement made on March 6, 2009 to all Saleen dealers, MJ Acquisitions announced that while “regrettably, Saleen, Inc. is unable to honor any warranties,” MJ Acquisitions will “not be responsible or obligated to cover warranties and/or financial liabilities of Saleen, Inc.”

“I was saddened about the way the current owners of the proud company I founded, and which held onto my name after my departure two years ago, have now dealt with my loyal and longtime customers,” said Mr. Saleen, who founded Saleen over 25 years ago. Mr. Saleen remained the company’[/SIZE]s CEO until 2006, and left the company completely in the spring of 2007. Since then Mr. Saleen has had no control of, or operational role with, his former company, its operations or its current shareholders, Hancock Park Associates.

“The ones who have been left out in the cold are the loyal customers of Saleen products,” continued Mr. Saleen, “While my new company, SMS Supercars, has no legal or moral obligation to take up any of the warranty claims against Saleen, Inc. or MJ Acquisitions, Inc., I would like to make a bold statement on the right way to treat customers.”

“If any Saleen customer in the United States who purchased a Saleen, Inc. product up until February 2, 2009, has a warranty claim, they can directly contact my new company, SMS Supercars,” continued Mr. Saleen. “We will honor their remaining warranties as if they were SMS Supercars warranties.” SMS Supercars’ warranty terms will apply.

“This unusual step in these uncertain times is a measure to assure that my past and future customers, as well as Saleen and Ford dealers around the United States, continue to have faith in products bearing my name”, said Mr. Saleen, who went on to say, “Customers who have bought a Saleen product in the past will receive the attention and care they and the Saleen products deserve.”

“Despite claims from any other company,” continues Mr. Saleen, “SMS Supercars is the only company that today offers products endorsed by Steve Saleen.”

SMS Supercars, based in Orange County, California, is a manufacturer of high-end lifestyle performance vehicles. As his first new product, Steve Saleen launched the new SMS 570 Challenger in Newport Beach, California, on January 21, 2009. The world premiere of the new SMS 570X Challenger is scheduled for April 9, 2009, at 1.30 p.m. at the New York International Auto Show.
