SALEEN DARK HORSE

Yet Another Limited-Edition Mustang

Despite numerous executive departures from Saleen in the last month or two, the company is still making new products. This one could be the last special-edition Mustang… until the reskinned, reengineered 2010 Mustang debuts at the Los Angeles auto show in November with a corral full of them.

The Saleen Dark Horse Extreme Edition follows on the heels-or is it the hooves?-of the Sterling Edition and Gurney Signature Edition Mustangs from Saleen. The Dark Horse offers the same impressive supercharged 620 hp as the Sterling, but comes wrapped in its own sinister black exterior. Under the SuperShaker hood scoop is a 302-cubic-inch Ford V8 with Saleen port-matched Series VI integrated screw-type supercharger, forged-aluminum pistons, forged-steel connecting rods and a forged-steel crank. The hood scoop supposedly delivers 0.5 psi of boost all by itself.

Saleen will make only 25 Dark Horses, as many as five of which will be convertibles. Sticker price is $89,995. They go into production in November, with sales starting that same month.

If you don’t have $90,000 of disposable income, consider Saleen’s Racecraft division. A Racecraft 420S offers 420 hp and a few other amenities for “just” $38,000.

Even more affordable will be the coming Racecraft Focus, expected shortly after the new production Ford Focus debuts in 2010. The Racecraft version will come in a normally aspirated version with handling and cosmetic improvements for $20,199, while the turbocharged version will offer “between 200 hp and 250 hp” for between $23,000 and $24,000. Production plans call for 50 to 75 a month, all of them 50-states legal.

SALEEN INC. REORGANIZES SALES & MARKETING TEAM

IRVINE, CA — August 28, 2008 — Today, the specialty manufacturer announced the recent hiring of Mark Patrzik to its sales team. After having quietly announced the departure of CEO Paul Wilbur on August 15, Chris Theodore assumed Wilbur’s role, moving from Vice Chairman and Chief Technology Officer.

With Patrzik’s hiring, Saleen sales team veteran Tom Ryan has shifted gears to Vice President of International Development. Ryan’s first task was to head north to Canada to help expand the Saleen dealer network elsewhere in North America and abroad.

Other mangement changes include the responsibilities of Julie Zona, Saleen’s head of product planning, who will assume the role of Director of Marketing and Program Planning. Zona, a veteran of Chrysler’s marketing and product development teams, has been with Saleen for just under a year. Among her first projects was the 25th Anniversary Sterling Edition, on which she worked closely with McCammon.

NEW RACECRAFT 420S OUTFITTED WITH BRIDGESTONE-BRAND POTENZA TIRES

NASHVILLE, Tenn. July 28, 2008 — The 2008/2009 Racecraft 420S Mustang, unveiled by Saleen Inc. on Saturday, July 26 during Mustang Week in Myrtle Beach, S.C., is equipped with Bridgestone-brand Potenza tires.

The first model in Saleen’s new Racecraft performance vehicle brand lineup, the 420S comes with Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position™ tires in size 275/40R18 99W.

The tire was designed to give sports car owners a solid all-season performer that can keep pace when the weather switches gears. With exclusive UNI-T™ AQII™ technology, the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position delivers in the wet and dry, even as the tire wears, and contains silica – in a specially formulated and processed compound that improves traction – and a leading edge sipe for enhanced adaptability in wet or dry conditions.

“We are excited about offering the premium performance technology of the Bridgestone brand on the ultra sporty and highly acclaimed Racecraft 420S,” said Michael Martini, President, Consumer OE Tire Division, Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire, LLC (BFNT). “The union of Bridgestone and Saleen is a match 420S Mustang owners will appreciate from the street to the track.”

Racecraft is Saleen’s value-oriented performance brand. The 420S, priced below $40,000, represents for many enthusiasts their first opportunity to own a Saleen-manufactured vehicle.

“The Racecraft moniker has been synonymous with Saleen performance since the first Saleen Mustang. The Bridgestone-brand Potenza tires are a perfect fit with our Racecraft performance line of vehicles. We anticipate long term success with this brand and are looking forward to partnering with Bridgestone,” said Marques McCammon, General Manager, Saleen Automotive.

Armed with a 4.6L supercharged V8 engine, the Racecraft 420S produces 420 horsepower and 400 lbs.-ft. torque. The car is also highly customizable with an array of offerings from the company’s SpeedLab division.

About Saleen:

Since the company’s inception in 1984, Saleen has produced over 12,000 complete and EPA certified, specialty vehicles, more than any other specialty automobile manufacturer. In addition, Saleen has equipped more than 600,000 vehicles worldwide, further emphasizing their capabilities and commitment to excellence. A nine-time Manufacturers’ Champion in GT sports car racing, Saleen manufactured the American super car — the Saleen S7, as well as the S281 Mustang, S331 Sport Truck and the Saleen/Parnelli Jones Limited Edition Mustang. Saleen’s manufacturing facilities are located in Troy, Michigan. The Michigan facility has also just completed all paint and assembly of the Ford GT as a special project for Ford Motor Company and currently is providing paint and subassembly for the Dodge Viper SRT-10.

SALEEN INCORPORATED INTRODUCES RACECRAFT DIVISION

Troy, MI (July 3, 2008) – Today Saleen Incorporated, America’s premiere niche vehicle manufacturer, announced the promotion of its newest performance vehicle brand, Racecraft. “The Racecraft moniker has been synonymous with Saleen performance since the first Saleen Mustang, “said Saleen Automotive General Manager, Marques McCammon.

“Racecraft is a brand that our enthusiasts know as the secret sauce in Saleen suspensions, now that brand name will grow to encompass a full line of exciting performance vehicles.”

The Racecraft brand will provide consumers with:

  • Value that the market can touch
  • A ready canvas for customization
  • Business first styling that puts go before show

“This formula is one of legitimate performance that you can see, hear, and feel. It just seemed a natural for us to say that Racecraft will ‘Power Your Senses’ “, said McCammon.

Racecraft model nomenclature is a reflection of vehicle horsepower. Thus the first model in the lineup, the base Mustang, 420S features 420 Horsepower Supercharged V8 engine. Each Racecraft vehicle will also feature the signature Racecraft suspension, Bridgestone performance tires, light weight aluminum alloy wheels, race inspired graphics and signature interior accents. The design formula is understated, leaving room for the enthusiast to explore their own expression of style and performance through Saleen’s SpeedLab performance parts division. All of this is wrapped in a 3 year 36,000 mile factory warranty.

“Racecraft and SpeedLab is the perfect marriage,” says SpeedLab General Manager, Michael Lingo. “The vehicles are dynamically superior right out of the box, but my team is always ready to take performance to the next level. It is a perfect combination, and the winner is the consumer.”

Among the SpeedLab offerings, consumers will find the ability to upgrade the performance of their vehicles to up 475 horsepower without violating their factory warranty. Many other components will allow the Racecraft owner to explore further expressions in power, style, and handling to help make their Racecraft an unique expression of their performance personality.

Value is a key cornerstone of this new brand. This is evident in the sub-$40,000 price point of the 420 horsepower 420S that includes transportation and applicable federal taxes. What’s more, the consumer will find many of the offerings from SpeedLab priced at or below $1000.

This type of value will be found in each Racecraft branded vehicle that executives say will begin hitting the market later this year. “There are many customers out there who want to experience extreme performance reasonably priced; we designed the Racecraft brand with this buyer in mind, says McCammon.

Speculation that Racecraft will replace the Saleen brand is completely false. Racecraft is actually intended as the entry point of the Saleen performance enthusiast. The 420S is just the first offering from the new brand. Saleen executives contend that the brand will follow with more products that fit. “Consumers should expect to see the next Racecraft model as early as the fall”, said Product Planning Director, Julie Zona. The Racecraft 420S provides the power enthusiasts require behind the wheel and the control needed for unyielding performance.
