MECHANIC HITS THE JACKPOT IN THE BP NATIONAL SEARCH FOR THE BEST AUTO TECHNICIAN IN AMERICA

Amoco Ultimate ‘Golden Mechanic’ Wins Spokesperson Contract, $25,000 and a Year’s Worth of Amoco Ultimate Fuel at BP

LAS VEGAS, Nev., Nov. 2 /PRNewswire/ — Greg Damon hit the jackpot in Las Vegas today when he competed against top mechanics from across the country to take top prize in the BP search for the 2007 Amoco Ultimate “Golden Mechanic.” Damon, from St. Charles, Mo., who leaves his tools behind at Sant Automotive in Crestwood, Mo., won based on his superior auto repair skills, community involvement, environmental consciousness and of course, winning personality. Damon took home the grand prize of $25,000, a year’s worth of Amoco Ultimate fuel at BP, and will serve as an Amoco Ultimate national spokesperson in 2007.

The national competition took place on November 2 at the annual SEMA Show in Las Vegas and was hosted by Car and Driver radio host, Alan Taylor. Finalists were rated by an expert panel of judges including The Car Coach(R), Lauren Fix; Denny Kahler, past Chairman of the Board for Automotive Service Association (ASA); Road & Track editor Andrew Bornhop and Steve Saleen, founder and president of Saleen Inc.

“I am honored and thrilled to have been selected as the 2007 Amoco Ultimate Golden Mechanic and I am looking forward to serving as the spokesperson throughout the next year,” said Greg Damon. “It will be a great opportunity to work with mechanics all over the country and to help educate drivers about the benefits of Amoco Ultimate at BP.”

The final competition featured multiple challenges testing each of the three finalists in various areas. Each competitor had the opportunity to showcase their auto repair knowledge and auto diagnostic skills in a series of fast-paced physical challenges. The finalists then flexed their brain power by answering tough questions from a panel of industry experts. The finalist who tallied the most points took top honors, collecting the grand prize and received the coveted Golden Mechanic giant wrench award.

“We are thrilled that Greg won our second annual Amoco Ultimate ‘Golden Mechanic’ contest,” said Christine Jagher from BP. “Greg will continue the important work performed by our 2006 winner, Ryan Kooiman. Over the past two years, we have seen hundreds of examples of the outstanding level of talent represented in the automotive service field today. BP is honored to continue to salute the mechanics who keep our cars running smoothly and safely.”

BP began its search for the Amoco Ultimate Golden Mechanic earlier this year to find a mechanic who has premium auto repair abilities, is trustworthy, active in the community and environmentally conscious. The contest drew hundreds of qualified applications from all over the country from which twenty-five semifinalists were selected.

Of the semi-finalists, three finalists were chosen to compete in the final competition in Las Vegas. The two runners-up in the contest included, John Vallely of Elgin, Ill., and Scott Davidson of Dayton, Ohio.

A TRUCK THAT REALLY ‘HAULS’

Saleen’s New Supercharged S331 Packs a 450 Horsepower Punch,
Seats Up to Five Adults and Can Tow a House

IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ — In its first year of production, the 2007 Saleen S331 Sport Truck revived the diminishing performance truck segment with the first fully-functional, high-powered sport truck to the market in several years. Many performance trucks quickly followed, but none came close to offering the same combination of functionality, performance and aggressive styling.

2008 S331 Supercharged Supercrew
2008 S331 Supercharged Supercrew

The 2008 edition continues to lead the performance truck segment with the same aggressive 450 horsepower, supercharged V-8 engine, Saleen RaceCraft suspension and the addition of a new SuperCrew four-door cab option. The S331 also maintains the ability to tow up to 9,500 lbs. Designed and engineered by the same technicians that hand-built the Saleen S7 Twin Turbo super car, the S331 continues as a functional truck with the optimum performance and styling of a world-class sports car.

The S331’s package is complete with 23-inch Saleen wheels on ultra-high performance tires and power assisted four-wheel ABS brakes. Like all true performance vehicles, the S331’s cockpit has a commanding driving position from two-toned, double-stitched leather sport seats.

Starting at $54,200, the S331 Sport Truck will outperform any truck on the road, tow lots of heavy toys and comfortably carry up to five adults. And since it’s a Saleen, the vehicle will maintain a high resale value.

Saleen, a niche vehicle manufacturer, engineers vehicles under the same requirements as the big three automotive manufacturers (Ford Motor Company, General Motors and Chrysler LLC). This is an extensive process, but it guarantees buyers each body panel is made of the same high-quality, injection-molded plastics as the original equipment manufacturers (OEM) require. Each performance modification is engineered and calibrated by Saleen to provide efficient power and exceptional handling, without over exerting the engine or drivetrain. The end result is an exclusive vehicle offering of high-performance cars and trucks unlike anything else on the road.

As of 2007, Saleen equipped more than 600,000 vehicles worldwide, including 12,000 complete and EPA-certified vehicles, more than any other specialty automobile manufacturer. Saleen also helps major automotive manufacturers engineer and produce their performance vehicles including the Ford GT and Harley-Davidson Edition F-150 for Ford Motor Company and Dodge Viper for Chrysler LLC.

CANNONBALL WORLD EVENTS MAKES HISTORY ON THE STREETS OF AMERICA

Cannonball World Events have staged a world’s first in the United States with the triumphant conclusion of the largest ever stateside coast-to-coast road rally. The inaugural Great American Run book ended a six day, 3000 mile drive through some of America’s most notable cities with a unique two-point start and a $100,000 dollar finale.

Almost two hundred primed performance cars hightailed it out of Central Park, New York and the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Florida in tandem on 29th July. Travelling two very different routes along America’s eastern seaboard, the train of elite vehicles made a stylish addition to the flamboyant city of Las Vegas before going all out at a high-speed track day at Willow Springs raceway. A more sedate final leg saw the road-weary competitors head en-masse to Los Angeles for a final night party and the prize-giving ceremony.

Beating off competition from a bevy of international entrants and hundreds of domestic drivers with varying levels of professional driving experience, car number 13, successfully piloted by Steve Games and Don Conley (San Diego) was deemed the overall winner and the first ever recipient of the Great American Run title with an average speed of 60.991 mph. The pair were presented with an exclusive 600 BHP Saleen ‘Bad Boy’ Ultimate Mustang custom designed by Cannonball World Events CEO Tim ‘Maverick’ Porter.

“Steve and Don are worthy winners of the first ever Great American Run,” said event organiser, Tim ‘Maverick’ Porter. “Not only did they walk away with the exclusive Great American Run Saleen Bad Boy Mustang but they have earned the right to defend their title in next year’s $1 million event.”

Games and Conley pipped runner up Des Sellmeijer and Hece Kestila’s GTSpirit.com Corvette by just 0.06 of a second. Rounding out the podium was the BMW trio of Dana Bonik, John Betchell and Chris Cruise. Molly Saleen, daughter of car manufacturer Steve Saleen was granted the accolade of fastest driver in her un-missable candy coloured Molly-Pop Mustang.

Preparations are already underway for next year’s event, a two start single route road rally with a prize fund set to rise to a cool $1 million bounty if all competition births are filled. Before the July 20th start, a winter challenge will be held in February taking in Los Angeles – Lake Tahoe for a seven-day ski-themed adventure.

PAUL WILBUR NAMED PRESIDENT & CEO OF TWO COMPANIES: SALEEN AND ASC

Saleen and ASC Combine Competencies to Build Niche Vehicles

Paul Wilbur
Paul Wilbur

IRVINE, CA – August 11, 2007: Hancock Park Associates, the primary investor in Saleen Incorporated, recently completed the acquisition of assets of American Specialty Cars Incorporated (ASC). Paul Wilbur, current President and CEO of ASC, was today appointed to the role of President and CEO of Saleen, as well. The strategic alignment of these two niche vehicle manufacturers will create a complete portfolio of products and services for future Saleen vehicles, aftermarket accessories and vehicles created for the world’s original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

“Paul is one of the most dynamic automotive executives in the U.S. automotive industry with more than 26 years of industry experience; 21 years with OEMs and five years in the Tier 1 supply business,” said Kevin Listen, a Hancock Park Associates partner. “His knowledge of the specialty vehicle business is paramount as he leads Saleen and begins to grow ASC’s specialty open air and creative services businesses. We expect a lot of good things to happen under Paul’s leadership.”

In the near-term, both ASC and Saleen will remain as separate companies, although the long-term vision is to strategically integrate the two operations. While each company will maintain its unique focus, both companies have common platforms as low volume, specialty vehicle manufacturers. The combined group will be comprised of OEM, Tier 1 and aftermarket business units.

Along with Wilbur, Saleen will also be supported by Chris Theodore, the retired vice president of product development at Ford Motor Company, best known as the “father of the Ford GT program.” Theodore will lead new product development for both companies and be its chief technology officer. Marques McCammon will assume the daily responsibilities at Saleen.

With great enthusiasm, the teams are currently working together to launch the 2008 Saleen model line, in addition to equipping all supercharged Ford Harley-Davidson Edition F-150s with Saleen’s patented twin-screw supercharger and painting all 2008 Dodge Vipers. The group is especially looking forward to combining its efforts to produce the next generation of Ford Mustang and F- 150-derived vehicles due out within the next two years.

“The combination of Saleen’s powertrain and chassis expertise, along with ASC’s body engineering and design capabilities is no accident,” says Wilbur. “Moving forward, both companies are excited to develop innovative products for the automotive industry. Together, the two companies will have the expertise to design, engineer and manufacture amazing new specialty vehicle products. The synergies of the two companies create a clear leader in the niche vehicle business. I am also very excited to join the talented team at Saleen.”

ASC SELLS OPEN AIR AND CREATIVE SERVICES DIVISIONS TO HANCOCK PARK ASSOCIATES

Business Continues Moving Forward with New Sky Slider Roof System

SOUTHGATE, Mich., Aug. 10 // — After voluntarily filing for chapter 11 protection on May 2, 2007, American Specialty Cars Incorporated (ASC) has sold a majority of its assets to Hancock Park Associates of Los Angeles, Calif.

Hancock Park Associates signed a definitive agreement to purchase ASC’s open air and creative services assets on May 1, 2007. The acquisition was approved by the federal bankruptcy court on June 22, 2007 and was recently finalized.

The transaction represents a strategic addition to Hancock Park Associates’ automotive holdings, as the firm is also the majority investor in Saleen Incorporated, a specialty vehicle manufacturer headquartered in Irvine, Calif. Kevin Listen, a Hancock Park Associates partner, noted the significance of ASC’s expertise in design and body engineering, and his intention to capitalize on the synergies found by connecting ASC to Saleen’s powertrain and chassis capabilities.

Paul Wilbur will remain as President and CEO of ASC. In addition, a majority of the executive team, including Chris Theodore, and a large portion of the hourly and salary staff members will continue moving forward with ASC. Long time ASC executives Steve Laurain and Mark Trostle will lead the Open Air and Creative Services divisions, respectively.

The assets of the remaining ASC divisions not included in the acquisition, now known collectively as St. James Inc., are still under bankruptcy court protection. These assets include the discontinued operations relating to vehicle painting, composites and past-model service business units.

Hancock Park Associates also assumed liabilities under certain supplier contracts that supported ASC’s open air and creative services divisions, and related past invoices are being paid according to protocol established by the bankruptcy court.

Now free from heavy overhead related to the early termination of the Chevrolet SSR and its old paint and composites divisions, ASC has a strong balance sheet that is poised for profitable growth in the open air and creative services businesses. This month, ASC and Jeep will introduce yet another open air innovation to the U.S. market — the new Sky Slider roof. The full open air roof option offers a convertible-like experience in SUVs and Crossovers at an affordable price point. Early dealer orders are strong for this innovative roof system.
