THE RESTORATION OF 86-0064

To veterans in the Saleen hobby, witnessing the restoration of early series vehicles are not a new phenomenon. The notion of “stay ahead of the curve” rang true when vehicles under the age of ten were rebuilt to better-than-new status during the 1990s.

As first generation Saleen Mustangs approach their thirtieth birthdays, we are poised to witness a renaissance in the repair, refresh and restoration of these ’80s and ’90s performance icons. This transition is apparent with Saleen enthusiast Ray Bare. Ray is part of a new generation breathing life into stationary relics in need of passionate caretakers.

Located by way of Craigslist during spring 2013, Ray spied 86-0064, a typical pre-owned 5-liter Mustang that survived 20-years of doing battle as a “hot car.” The fiberglass cowl hood, color change (tonality of hue), rebuilt stroker 302 and new roof skin were clear indications #64 lived with its needle pointed to the right side of the dial.

Built in late April/May of 1986 and delivered to Snipes Ford, #64 represents a near typical spec-model for Saleen Autosport. These build features include: a complete ’86 model year body kit, 16″x7″ Riken lace wheels, GT sport seating with GT dash trim and Kenwood sound system. Notable exceptions to equipment were: retention of the original equipment Ford shift assembly (in lue of Hurst unit) and an alternative Momo Master steering wheel (caused by availability issues with the Veloce).

1986 Saleen Mustang production would total 201 units for the model year with 190 completed in the hatchback body style. The more common LX trim represent 183 vehicles with 46 units ordered in Bright Red (2R) paint, of those 43 feature charcoal interior. Of the 43 LX hatchbacks in Bright Red with charcoal interior; it is estimated 31 were produced with correct model year body kit and 16” wheels.

13-011 S620 SALEEN / BONDURANT EDITION HITS eBay

Price: US $59,995.00
VIN: 2G1FS1EW8D9166228
Mileage: 2,005
eBay #: 221439608353

Up for sale is a 2013 Saleen/Bondurant 620 special edition Chevrolet Camaro. Rare would be an understatement. It is the only 2013 Saleen/Bondurant camaro ever made. There were 2 made in 2012 and 1 made in 2013. Even better, this car was built for Bob Bondurant and was displayed at his world famous racing school. It has the same specs as a black label top of the line Saleen Camaro package but the Bondurant package makes it that much rarer. It also has the optional RS package from the factory.

This Saleen packs 600 horsepower out of it’s 6.2 liter supercharged LS3 motor and backs to a 6 speed manual transmission. The following upgrades are part of the package:

  •     Saleen supercharger with asymmetric multi-lube screws
  •     Low pressure drop internal intercoolers
  •     High volume intercooler water pump with closed single pass system
  •     Remote external heat exchanger
  •     47lb fuel injectors
  •     Cold air induction with high performance air filter
  •     High performance dual exhaust with high performance mufflers
  •     Polished stainless steel exhaust tips
  •     3:45 final gear ratio
  •     Saleen red butterfly induction hood
  •     Saleen blade front grille
  •     Saleen front splitter
  •     Saleen side skirts
  •     Saleen high downforce rear diffuser
  •     Saleen aerodynamic rear deck lid with integrated spolier
  •     Saleen exterior emblems
  •     Leather and suede custom upholstery
  •     Dashboard signed by Steve Saleen and Bob Bondurant

This Saleen has upgraded options as well which include 15 inch multipiece front brake rotors with 6 piston calipers which cost an additional $1,900 and an adjustable Saleen coil over suspension system which costs an additional $2,450.

The original msrp on this car was around $65,000 and it was the only one made in 2013. It is serial #011. Saleen retains the rights to the first 10 serial #’s of all Saleen automobiles as part of his contract but none were ever used. All the miles on this car were from 2 roadtrips to and from the Bondurant racing school in Arizona to Saleen headquarters in California. It is owned by Bob Bondurant and the title is in the Bondurant racing schools name.

If you buy this car, you can fly in and meet Bob Bondurant and get a picture taken with him and the car. You could also stay and do a Bondurant racing school course to learn how to handle your new 600 horsepower monster!!!(racing school course is not included)

This is a great collectible car and an awesome combination of 2 racing legends. It has the balance of both the Saleen warranty and the factory Chevrolet warranty. There was a 2012 Saleen/Bondurant camaro that sold at Barrett Jackson for $100,000 in January 2012. Do not miss your chance to own this awesome piece of history because being a 1 of 1 means that another one will never come up for sale!!!

If you have any questions, please call Randy at 480-206-1701.

RACING LEGEND AND BUSINESSMAN JOE AMATO JOINS SALEEN AUTOMOTIVE’S BOARD OF DIRECTORS

CORONA, Calif., May 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Saleen Automotive, Inc. (OTCQB: SLNN), (OTCBB: SLNN) (the “Company”), an American specialty manufacturer of high performance vehicles, technical performance parts, lifestyle accessories and apparel, is pleased to announce that legendary driver and businessman Joe Amato has joined the Board of Directors, effective immediately.

During his two decades as one of Top Fuel’s most successful drivers, Joe Amato had an uncanny knack for finding the winner’s circle. From his early days in the Pro Comp class through his record five NHRA Winston Top Fuel championships, the affable and popular Pennsylvania businessman seemingly won at will. In addition to his five Winston titles, Amato’s résumé includes 52 victories in Top Fuel and another five behind the wheel of an alcohol-fueled dragster. A longtime fan favorite due to his easygoing nature and willingness to interact with the public, Amato competed in 99 final rounds in Top Fuel and won the Budweiser Shootout at Pomona a record six times. He finished in the top 10 an incredible 19 straight years, from 1982 through his sudden retirement at the end of the 2000 campaign.

Amato’s success on the dragstrip was paralleled by his achievements in the boardroom. As president of Keystone Automotive Warehouse, he became one of the world’s largest distributors of high-performance automotive parts and accessories and was able to parlay that status into a number of successful long-term sponsorships. As a result, his racing efforts were never underfinanced.

“Adding my friend and colleague Joe Amato to our Board of Directors is a historic moment for Saleen Automotive,” stated Steve Saleen, CEO, Saleen Automotive. “Joe has accomplished remarkable achievements on and off the track and brings that legacy of success as a contributing member of our board and indeed, a highly valued strategic partner. I very much look forward to utilizing Joe’s unique skill set as we execute the Saleen Automotive business plan.”

“I’m pleased to join Steve Saleen, his management team, and the members of the Board in a journey to take Saleen Automotive to new heights,” stated Amato. “Steve has built a reputation for excellence to which few can compare and I look forward to being a part of this ride as a working member of the Board.”

SALEEN FACTORY: INSIDE THE MUSCLE CAR LABORATORY

By: DAVE BURNETT on May 8, 2014 at 4:56 am
Original Article: PUPPYKNUCKLES.COM

Let’s say you’re a fan of all-American muscle, and you want to stand out from the legions of other Mustang, Camaro, and Challenger owners prowling the streets. You need presence. You want to intimidate. You won’t be satisfied until you have the ability to instantly vanquish large amounts of fossil fuels with your right foot. Enter Saleen. No mere tuner, Saleen is one of the leading performance houses in the world and they are creating arguably the most fearsome street machines ever sold with a warranty. I took a quick spin through their spotless, near-showroom-quality factory recently and saw where these beasts are born.

Saleen Tour

Saleen currently produces three different cars: the Saleen 570 Challenger, the Saleen 302 Mustang, and the Saleen 620 Camaro, as well as a handful of special editions. The factory is nestled at the end of a long corporate park in Corona, CA, the access road for which has a peculiar abundance of black tire marks. The cars in the parking lot are driven by employees to shake down new parts.

Saleen Tour

It’s hard to believe they build cars here, it’s too clean. The facility is basically two assembly lines and it was designed to feel as much like a showroom as it does a factory. The cars come here straight from Ford, Chevrolet, and Dodge, brand-spanking new, and are immediately disassembled. Every car is going to get the Saleen visual touch: bumpers, wheels, grills, hoods, interior trim as well as a baseline performance enhancement in the powertrain and suspension. But some cars get entirely new engines and major components that completely takes things to a new level. The orange convertible in the lead image above is undergoing the transformation to a 700+ horsepower monster Saleen 351, the most ridiculous Mustang Saleen has ever made. It gets a whole new 351 cubic inch motor that has been punched out from the 5.4 mod V8, as well as serious braking and suspension upgrades.

Saleen Tour

Other, slightly less insane packages add supercharged power to the existing 5.0 Coyote engine, but these motors still can churn out 625 horsepower under boost. Incredible.

Saleen Tour

The star of the whole show for me was this George Follmer edition Mustang, #001. For those who don’t know, George Follmer was a legend in the world of Trans Am and road racing in general, who drove in anger some of the most incredible BOSS 302 Mustangs ever built against fellow legends like Sam Posey and Parnelli Jones. Click here to see some photos of the original ’69 Follmer BOSS Mustang tearing up Lime Rock Park last year at the Vintage Festival.

Saleen Tour

The 5.0 liter Coyote equals 302 cubic inches in displacement which makes it perfect for a tribute to the Trans Am days; the Follmer edition stays naturally aspirated but fully built including camshafts, valve springs, a tuned intake manifold backed up by a free flowing exhaust to achieve 470 horsepower and well over 400 lb/ft of torque. Would you be mad if I told you they fired this beast up for me? They did. It sounded perfect.

Saleen Tour

There are a ton of cool touches on this car, not the least of which are these gorgeous 20″ retro-modern wheels. Good lord those are special.

Saleen Tour

Inside the Follmer, more custom touches including custom seat covers and door inserts.

Saleen Tour

The MT-82 six speed is operated by this custom “GF” shifter.

Saleen Tour

George Follmer and Steve Saleen’s signatures on the dashboard.

Saleen Tour

The floormats have a track map of the old Riverside, where George had great success, and secured the Trans Am championship in 1971 (driving an AMC… shhhh.)

Saleen Tour

Saleen has a tradition of numbering all their cars on the front driver’s side bumper. This is the number you want to see.

Saleen Tour

In case you have always thought that Saleen was just “some Mustang tuner” it’s hard to ignore this gorgeous red sports car sitting in the corner. That’s Steve Saleen’s personal S7, the supercar he designed and built in 2000 and the track version went on to win four GT championships in 2001. These machines sold for upwards of 400,000+ when new and they are still highly regarded today.

Saleen Tour

Fun fact: Saleen at one time had OEM manufacturer status. That means they were held to the same Federal standards as any other car manufacturer with regards to safety and quality. Arguably no company has combined an OEM approach to modified production cars as successfully as Saleen.

Saleen Tour

Sitting in the lobby is another one of Steve’s cars, this time a Mustang GT racer that was campaigned in the American Le Mans series and probably driven by Ron Johnson.

Everywhere you look in Saleen’s facility you see actual motorsports heritage. It’s a killer factory, and if you’re in the Corona area just drop by or give them a call. It’s worth the trip.

FOUND: 85-0001

85-0001 Road Review

For 1985, Saleen Autosport manufactured 140 Mustangs during their inaugural year of production. Vehicle number 85-0001, a demonstrator for Steve Saleen, lived life in a constant state of flux throughout 1985 and 1986.

Pulling duty both as a demo and press vehicle, 85-0001 continued the task 84-0032 began with introducing the “Saleen Mustang” to an unknowing public.

Shortly thereafter 85-0001 became a Saleen Autosport development vehicle, gaining revised suspension components, a built short block, in addition to 1986 model year appearance and interior items. A most notable upgrade were the 5-lug rotors and four wheel disc brakes.

After serving Saleen Autosport as the resident development mule, 85-0001 was reconditioned, regained the correct 1985 spec front air damn and then offered for sale.

85-0001 spent the last decade hiding from onlookers in plain view. Torched by Southern California sunshine and motionless for the past six years.
