In the automotive world, there are a select number of small batch manufacturers that start off with a good vehicle, obsessively massage it, and manage to improve it greatly. The idea is not to completely redesign, but rather to rebuild it in a manner that says, “this is the way they should have build this car.”

25 years ago Steve Saleen took this path with the Ford Mustang and since then, he has been successfully tweaking Mustangs into serious, limited production performance cars. Since the founding of the company in the early 1980s, Saleen has won the Manufacturers GT Championship nine times and has produced over 12,000 EPA certified vehicles. In addition to these cars, it has equipped over 600,000 additional vehicles worldwide. Impressive.

To commemorate its 25th Anniversary, Saleen produced just 25 Saleen Automotive SA-25 Sterling Edition Mustangs – hand painted, loaded with performance options and as exclusive as it gets, these Sterling Edition cars are as rare as the S7, but based on one of America’s Muscle car staples, the Ford Mustang.

The power plant in the Saleen is a quick revving 302 Modular V8 with 620 HP and 600 lb-ft TQ. As a power adder, the engine uses a port matched Twin Screw Supercharger with Dual Stage Water-to-Air Intercooler system connected to one of Saleen’s Cold Air Induction systems. At the front of this unit is a Hi -Flow mass air flow sensor and K&N style filter. Engine internals include forged aluminum pistons, forged connecting rods, forged crankshaft and performance camshaft. The aluminum cylinder heads have been ported on a 5-axis CNC machine. This nasty powerplant exhales through a stainless exhaust with a really race sounding note. Gone is the 5-speed transmission, and in its place is a new 6-speed unit. The rear is a trick Speed-Sensitive LSD and the car utilizes a performance clutch with a lightweight flywheel.

The handling on the Saleen is lightening quick courtesy of the Racecraft suspension. The car rides on tuned coilovers, beefed up sway bars and has a Watts linkage rear suspension. The brake system features massive 15″ rotors up front with 6 piston calipers and 11.8 inch rotors in the rear. The wheels are custom forged 20″ one piece wheels that really set set off the stance of the vehicle.

The Saleen is practical enough for everyday driving, fast enough for the track, and extremely collectable. No matter what your needs are, this car has it all.

As the last super-performance car developed under the guidance of company founder Steve Saleen, the S302E Extreme was also the most powerful Saleen Mustang available from Ford dealers when new, with 620 horsepower and peak torque of 600 pounds-feet on tap. As a top-level model aimed solely at the most serious drivers and collectors, the Extreme was a low-volume item with 25 coupes and 6 convertibles built for 2008 and 2009DCRN1 . Just 4 convertibles were built for 2008 and 2 of them were finished in eye-popping Beryllium Orange. One of those 2 cars was owned by Steve Saleen, and the other is the stunning example offered here. Both cars feature slightly different options, making this S302E Extreme convertible a true 1 of 1.

This S302E Extreme was Saleen’s top performer when new, with its aluminum 3-valve V-8 engine stroked to 302 cubic inches and equipped with forged aluminum pistons, forged steel rods, and crank, custom CNC-ported aluminum heads. A Saleen Series VI Integrated screw type, two-stage intercooled air-to-water supercharger provide induction in concert with a high-performance cam and valve springs and custom 39 lb fuel injectors.

2008 Saleen Supercharged 5 speed scenic glass top with 19,000 miles. Bright silver paint code ZY with black interior code 5W, built on 12/07. Clean Car Fax ,was a one owner with 12,890 miles on when I bought it. It came out of a guys collection and it is one GREAT Saleen. The color is what makes this Saleen, the Saleen number is #197 on a SN-197 body which only can be one of one for the year 2008 and has the glass top too. It drives out great has 465 HP and the 5 speed shifts perfect. Body is very clean and the same for the interior, the Saleen drivers floor mat still has the plastic wrap on it. I have shown it a few times and has always placed, it should and it is still like new. If you have any questions or need more pictures please let me know. This is the S302E- STERLING DR #26. Although this car is listed as #26, it is the very first Sterling to be produced. This car was built, and immediately sent to Saleen Speedlabs to create the ultimate race car. This car produces 835 HORSEPOWER at the engine, which creates over 700 wheel horsepower. This car can HOOK it also. After the Sterling was given to the Speedlabs, over $130k was invested into the car to turn it into what it is today. This is a custom Saleen Series VI Supercharger we built for our Race car. After we found out it wouldn’t clear the hood for obvious reasons we took it off and sold it to a customer of ours in Iceland. He figured it was worth getting a Cowl hood to put it on his Saleen 25th anniversary Sterling Mustang!
