1987 SPEEDLAB / BONDURANT MUSTANG RACER VISITS BONHAMS AUCTION

Lot 184 // The Amelia Island Auction // March 5, 2020

1987 Ford Mustang “Racer”

1987 SPEEDLAB / BONDURANT MUSTANG
1987 SPEEDLAB / BONDURANT MUSTANG

Motorcars from the Collection of Gerhard Schnuerer
1987 Ford Mustang “Racer”

  • 302ci V8 Engine
  • Carbureted
  • est. 400bhp at 5,500rpm

  • Front Independent Suspension – Live Rear Axle
  • 4-Wheel Disc Brakes
  • Purpose built engine
  • A track focused Fox Body Mustang
  • Thought to have been owned by Saleen

THE MOTORCAR OFFERED

Upon its introduction in 1979, the Fox-Body Mustang breathed fresh life into Ford’s enduring pony car. After years meandering with the Pinto based Mustang II, the Fox was unleashed from the get-go with a range topping V8 motor, unlike its predecessor. While early iterations continued the trend of speed alluding sticker packages, the Mustang now had the performance to back it up. Advancing into the high-tech 1980s, the range of fastback, notchback, and convertible body styles were supplemented by the introduction of the turbocharged 2.3 liter Lima engine. Reaching its ultimate potency in the much sought after SVO Mustang of 1984, this model superseded even the 5.0 powered GT within the Mustang Range.

With production due to carry on into the final decade of the 20th century, Ford remained diligent in keeping the aging platform up to date and competitive with its Detroit based competition. In 1987, the Fox received a facelift which served to both align the vehicle with the rest of Ford’s corporate identity and clean up the aerodynamic surfaces. The powertrain would continue to receive updates in this time and by the final model year the GT trim delivered a respectable 205hp. Available in just about any flavor an enthusiast could want, it should come as no surprise that the popularity of the Fox platform Mustang continues to grow over time.

This particular Fox has been converted into a potent racer. The car is said to have been built by Roush Racing and acquired from Saleen. Little is known about the specifics of the vehicle, but it looks to have been built with top spec components throughout. With a safety check and some light recommissioning, this beast will be sure to bring endless fun at your local track.

Vehicle Description & History

A. Vehicle Description

This vehicle is an AUTHENTIC and UNALTERED, extremely low mile, 1995 SALEEN Mustang S351 Convertible Speedster, T-code that is truly one of the few 1990’s collectible High Performance Mustang Muscle Cars. The Saleen Speedster, I is Saleen’s “flagship”. This model, the Saleen Speedster was the representative model on all Saleen Performance Part Booklets and even covered the front and back of the Saleen Book and Owners Registry. Saleen incorporated lessons learned from the track to the street in these mustangs, becoming a four time SCCA Champion by 1998. From original production records at corporate Saleen, the originating dealer was Archway Ford in Baltimore, MD with a manufacture date of May 12, 1995. An authentication letter signed by Liz Summar verifies this Saleen #95-0050 as Rio Red tinted clear coat exterior with black Saleen Recaro leather interior convertible with Silver graphics and Silver Wheels manufactured with the optional Speedster Package and T Code package. Further, this letter indicates that this particular Saleen is 1 of only 3 with these colors and options.

1995 Saleen Production consisted mainly of eighty-nine S351 Coupes and forty-three S351 Convertibles.

Optional Saleen Packages included:

  • the R Code (mainly Vortech supercharger equipment);

Suspension: full Saleen Racecraft suspension – springs, shocks, struts, quad shocks, urethane bushings, G-load brace

Other Performance Enhancements: Saleen high-performance pressure plate and clutch; Balanced and customized driveshaft; three-core radiator; and high perf. (high flow) 2 ½” stainless four-way cat exhaust

Saleen Authenticity maintained by: serialization numbers on front bumper, Saleen console plaque, and Saleen engine bay plaque, and other not so visible locations on the Saleen.

B. Vehicle History

This Saleen S351 Speedster is fully documented and authenticated from Saleen, Ford, and the original dealer.

  • It comes with congratulatory letter signed by Steve Saleen and Team Saleen verification letters signed by Liz Summar;
  • all dealer delivery documents, manuals, Ford and Saleen window stickers;
  • photographs from the original dealership showroom floor, the first owner and myself; and copies of bill of sale, original title, and other purchase transactions between first owner and myself.

If you have been searching for the right Saleen S351 at the right price, this is it! If you research price of Saleens I suggest NADA Classic Car Guides. However, one problem with the Saleen Speedsters is that they are “not referenced or priced as such” only convertibles, so look at the original Saleen MSRP and current retail value as a guide. Just remember, the original Saleen MSRP of this Speedster was $54,534, near that of a Saleen S351SR. This is understandable considering its light weight racing additions.

Should you have any questions call me at (860) 537-9183 to secure this rare find to add to your collection!

Thank you for looking, and good luck bidding!

93-0068 Saleen Mustang
93-0068 Saleen Mustang

Here’s your chance to get into a piece of fox body history. I have officially put 93-0068 up for sale on the open market.

This is a rare last year fox body Saleen. Currently probably one of the only ’93 Saleen Mustangs out there that would be considered a LEGIT driver that you can actually drive and enjoy. Most 93’s are super low mile cars that don’t see much street use, if any at all. This is not a car that needs to be stored away and forgotten about. Drive it like it was made to be!!!

Mechanically it’s perfect! No Noise smooth engine and perfect idle/drivability. I would drive this car across the country with any worries.

  • 1993 Mustang Saleen #68
  • 56k org documented miles

This is actually a pretty rare unique car. It’s a 1 of 1 , they made a total of 21 black hatch’s that year, it is the lone black hatchback produced in ’93 that was considered a non-option car, naturally aspirated with black Recaro seats and gray guts interior with 3:55:1 rear. It has been verified through Saleen.

93-0068 Saleen Mustang
93-0068 Saleen Mustang
  • Clean title , spotless history This is a all numbers matching car. No accident history ,all original body /ground effects etc.
  • Undercarriage is very clean, zero rust, engine bay is extremely clean strut towers are perfect!
  • All glass in the car is original to the car quarter glass windows all moldings are original to the car as well.
  • Interior is 100% factory original to the car.
  • The black cloth Recaros are in excellent condition.
  • Original R12 AC ice cold / hot heat.
  • Car still sits on its original one piece Stern wheels.
  • Car still has its factory Saleen/Hurst shifter.
  • Car still has its original Racecraft suspension intact and also still sports its rear quad shocks!

Car still has its factory pioneer with equalizer radio intact with a dealer installed 12 disc CD changer that was added practically from new. It is located in the rear hatch mounted on the driver side.

Little history on the car: I have personally owned this car for three years. I bought the car from the original owner. Car came from Texas. I have full documentation and paperwork on this car practically from new.

I also have full documentation on this car from when I took possession and what I personally went through with this car in my three-year ownership. The original paint had some faded spots throughout the car.

Under my ownership I decided to make a decision to have the car taken apart and repainted back to the factory original color. Stage 2 basecoat clearcoat was used on the car. My overall plan was to bring this car back to its original glory day and that’s what I did hence A couple minor upgrades that were at my personal discretion.

  • This Saleen sports a full $1,200.00 2.5 inch stainless Bassani exhaust from the headers to x-pipe.
  • The cat-back consist of 2.5 inch stainless steel spin tech exhaust.
  • The original alternator was replaced with an upgraded 4G 130 amp.
  • The original starter was upgraded with a high torque mini starter.
  • The original motor mounts were upgraded with energy suspension polyurethane mounts.
  • The car currently does not have any smog equipment on it that was deleted off.
  • I have all the original parts that came off the car less the cat back everything will be given to the new owner.

With that being said if you are looking for a museum quality 1993 Saleen that will sit in the garage that you cannot drive on the street and collect dust this is not the car for you. This is a excellent example of a rare 93 legit driver that can be bought to be driven and enjoyed because that’s what it is all about to me!!!

I am probably one of the most honest easy non-hassle seller that you’ll ever deal with. I have sold multiple multiple higher dollar foxes on these forums to many different individuals that I still keep in contact with that would stand behind my back 100% and I can provide contact information for your well-being.

I am looking for serious 100% legit buyers. That have funds available that are ready to buy. Please do not waste my time as I would not disrespect you and waste yours as well.

For further information and to discuss details in more depth seriousness please feel free to contact me. I may be reached at 609-350-3378.

I also have more pictures and videos that will be provided to serious buyers!

Thank you!!!

Exterior Color: SPEEDLAB YELLOW
Interior Color: CHARCOAL
Cylinders: V8
Engine Size: 4.6-LITER SUPERCHARGED
Transmission: 6-SPEED MANUAL

Description
Lot #645 – This is a fully documented 2005 Saleen Extreme S281 R&D Prototype finished in Speedlab Yellow over a Dark Charcoal leather interior with black graphics. It’s a true one-of-one car with 21,727 actual miles, most of which occurred during factory testing, and is powered by a 4.6-liter V8 engine backed by a 6-speed manual transmission.

Saleen did not release the Extreme model to the general public for purchase until 2006. This Saleen was used as the promotional Extreme model, which was unveiled at the Chicago and New York auto shows, generating pre-orders for 2006 production. This exact car can also be found within factory promotional literature. The 2005 Extreme Prototype story is very unique. In the Saleen production logs there were three prototypes set for production in 2005: #0001E, #0002E and #0003E. In reality, the #0003E car was never actually produced. The #0002E car, Sonic Blue in color, was purchased by an R&D employee and totaled while driving in the rain a short time after. This #0001E car is not only the first 2005 Extreme prototype but also the only remaining prototype in existence for the ’05-09 lineage. Many components on the car are hand-built and first of their kind, from the quarter-window deletes and carbon diffusers to a host of custom Saleen internal engine components.

In 2018 the 05-0001E was shipped to Corona, CA, not only for firsthand factory authentication, but to attend the Saleen World Car Show. For the show, the Saleen family selected one car from each production lineage to be parked in front of headquarters on display, and the 05-0001E was selected to represent the ’05-09 lineage. Ultimately, the one-of-a-kind 05-0001E was selected to receive The Best of Show award. While at Saleen Headquarters, Steve Saleen personally signed the dash with the #1 designation, and signed the engine compartment as well. Molly Saleen also signed her picture endorsing the 05-0001E at the show. All documented signatures, video of Steve Saleen signing 05-0001E, signed Factory Authentication Letter, processed Saleen Best of Show Award check, Saleen World Car Show numbered vehicle entry pass, and a factory brochure with 05-0001E featured will accompany the car. CARFAX shows Ford Motor Company manufacturer safety recall issued on 01/27/2019: Passenger airbag inflator replacement.
