Description
Lot #438.1 – This 1989 Saleen Mustang time capsule is #178 with only 661 actual miles (mileage not indicated on the title). It’s offered by Gas Monkey Garage. Ford didn’t do a 25th Anniversary Mustang, but Steve Saleen did, introducing his SSC on April 17, 1989. Based in California, Saleen was a veteran SCCA Trans-Am and Formula Atlantic racer. Saleen owned several Shelby Mustangs and decided to follow in Shelby’s footsteps and make stock Mustangs into personal high-performance cars. The result was a limited-edition run of specially modified 5.0-liter V8 Mustangs that are instantly recognizable by special paint, graphics and interior combinations that any high-performance automotive enthusiast will appreciate. Engine, suspension, exhaust and brake upgrades are enjoyed by only a handful of lucky owners that get to experience these cars first-hand. This particular example, serial #00178, has been meticulously cared for in a private collection and is only now offered for sale, having been stored in a climate-controlled environment for the past 27 years. 5-speed manual transmission.

PITTSBURGH VINTAGE GRAND PRIX – JULY 16-17, 2016

Schenley Park Race Weekend – July 16 & 17, 2016

2016 Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix
2016 Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix

Schenley Park is the scene of our nation’s largest vintage race event. 150 vintage racers gather here each July to test their skills and entertain the crowd. The PVGP races through Schenley Park are considered by many drivers to be the most challenging race course worldwide. The 2.33 mile circuit has 23 turns not to mention haybales, manhole covers, phone poles and stone walls. The Grand Prix in Schenley Park is the only vintage race event that is run on actual city streets – made possible by our Pit Crew of 1,000 volunteers.

The best place to watch the races is from the 456 acre Bob O’Connor Golf Course where the Grand Prix stages an International Car Show with over 2,000 vehicles on display. These car shows are mainly supported by local car clubs but are also open to the public for only $30 for the weekend. In addition to the car shows there are dozens of sponsor tents, a village full of vendors and plenty of food and refreshment vendors. 200,000 spectators are expected to come out and watch the races – there is no cost for spectators to enter, but we do encourage donations. Proceeds from the event benefit charity.

There is so much that happens on the Race Weekend in Schenley Park that we can’t fit it all on one page – so here are some quick links to individual events that occur over the weekend.

There are practice/warm-up sessions each morning. Qualifying races take place on Saturday with the Featured Races on Sunday. Both afternoons feature exciting racing as groups are separated by engine size and year of manufacture. There is little difference to spectators between Saturday’s and Sunday’s track action as over 175 cars will compete.

2016 Schedule
Saturday, July 16

  • Vintage Practice Sessions 8:15 – noon
  • Vintage Track Rides noon – 1:00
  • Vintage Qualifying Races 1:00 – 5:00
  • British Car Day 9:30 – 5:00
  • International Car Show 9:30 – 5:00

Sunday, July 17

  • Vintage Warm-up Sessions 8:15 – 11:00
  • Parades and Opening Ceremony 11:00- 11:50
  • Vintage Races noon – 5:00
  • International Car Show 9:30 – 5:00

MOLLY SALEEN RECOGNIZED, CORONA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE 40 UNDER 40 AWARD

Congratulations to Molly Saleen for her recognition as a Corona Chamber of Commerce 40-Under-40 Award winner!

CORONA – The Corona Chamber of Commerce introduced “40 under 40” Thursday at its 2016 State of the City luncheon.

It is a group of 40 “entrepreneurs and high achievers” who have yet reach their black balloon birthday. Honorees were nominated by peers and friends and selected by a panel of judges. They share early achievements, passion and a willingness to give back to their communities, according to the chamber.

The group sends the message that “this isn’t your dad’s chamber,” according to chief executive officer and president Bobby Spiegel.

“This is not a junior chamber acknowledgement,” said Mark Peabody, chairman of the board. “These are not like Cub Scouts in training or anything like that. These guys individually and collectively are very impressive at any age.”

Members come from city government, health care, education, finance, real estate, retail and the nonprofit world.

The youngest is Vivianne Silva, 18, who at 12 founded the Food Runners Club, which provides events catering to raise money for charities and jobs skills to youthful volunteers.

Most of the 40 under 40 attended the luncheon in a conference room at Crossroads Christian Church. Several shared their enthusiasms in the first of a series of videos the chamber will show at its events.

Chelsea Dischinger said her children get to see her make her dream and passion a reality. It is a handmade jewelry company called Pacific Daisy.

“Every time we get into a new store I take them in that store and they see Pacific Daisies is in the store,” she said in the video. “They see my display and they’re so proud. It’s a great way to teach my kids you can dream big. You can do anything that you want to do. Go for it. It’s also a way that I’m raising my children, as funny as that sounds.”

After the presentation, Mayor Jason Scott delivered the keynote, in which he outlined progress on the expansion of the 91 Freeway.

CLOSER LOOK: S281 (96-0002) RETURNS STATESIDE

PHOTOS: JAEDA CROSBY

96-0002 S281 LOA
96-0002 S281 LOA

Currently, Saleen Automotive offers a dozen custom exterior paint colors on their line of performance vehicles. Though in the late 1990s during the SN95 era, there was one available non-factory hue. A single color that could represent green, blue, purple and gold. This lone color was Extreme Rainbow, the initial optional Saleen custom color developed with partner BASF.

BASF introduced a line of “Extreme Colors” in 1996. Of these first three Extreme hues, Rainbow was the most varied. Officially offered by Saleen as an option for the 1997 model year, they would go on to produce a total of 19 vehicles in this chromatic paint before this color disappeared after the 2009 model year.

One such vehicle is 96-0002, this special SN95 S281 coupe is among the earliest Saleen Mustangs to showcase this unique paint option. Current owner, Jaeda Crosby, located 96-0002 through a fever-pitched search for an original Saleen Extreme Rainbow Mustang. Given both the limited production and limited availability of this color, Jaeda had few leads and numerous dead-ends in trying to locate a vehicle in the United States. Perseverance sent Jaeda to the United Kingdom where #02 had lived since 2004.

Produced during October 1996 and shipped on the 25th of that month, #02 features an interesting list of early Saleen optional equipment. Beginning with the newly introduced S281 coupe, #02 hosts the following: Heat extractor hood, Speedline magnesium wheels, tire upgrade, 13″ front brake upgrade, and Saleen/Recaro leather seating.

For the 1996 model year Saleen produced 444 Mustangs, 424 were S281 models, 413 were based on the GT chassis, 191 were of the GT coupe body, 177 GT coupes featured 5-speed manual transmissions and 27 GT coupes with manual transmissions featured Opal Grey interior. Of those, 4 had the Saleen/Alcon brake upgrade, 20 were equipped with the optional 3.55:1 gears, 3 had the Tire Upgrade while 96-0002 was the lone S281 coupe, GT chassis, Manual Transmission, Opal Grey interior vehicle to receive the optional Saleen vented hood, Saleen/Recaro leather seating, Speedline Magnesium Wheels and Optional Custom Paint.

Of the 444 street Mustangs produced for the model year, one was painted a Saleen custom color. 96-0002 is this car.

S7 TWIN TURBO (06-073) TO HIT RM AUCTIONS, MOTOR CITY

S7 Twin Turbo 06-073
S7 Twin Turbo 06-073

Plymouth, Michigan – 30 July, 2016

2006 Saleen S7
Chassis no. 1S9SB18106S000073
Serial no. S7-06-073
www.rmauctions.com

750 bhp, 427 cu. in. DOHC aluminum V-8 with twin Garrett turbochargers, six-speed manual transaxle, four-wheel fully adjustable independent suspension, and four-wheel ventilated Brembo disc brakes. Wheelbase: 106.2 in.

  • One of the final Saleen S7s built
  • Two owners and just over 300 miles from new
  • Serviced in May of 2016 and ready for the road

Born and bred right here in the United States, the all-new Saleen S7 was the brainchild of Steve Saleen and marked his company’s first venture into the world of the supercar. While it had an excellent reputation for tuning Mustangs, the company had never before built and designed a car of its own name, and so the world definitely took notice when Saleen unveiled the S7. Boasting a completely unique chassis clothed in svelte carbon-fiber bodywork, the S7 was developed for racing, with road-going examples constructed to meet homologation requirements and please eager customers. Fitted with a mid-mounted 427-cubic inch V-8 engine at its heart, it could truly compete with the world’s fastest and most exclusive supercars, boasting a top speed of 220 mph and a 0–60 mph time of 3.3 seconds.

Looking to turn up the intensity of the S7 even more, Saleen introduced the S7 Twin Turbo in 2005 to great fanfare. With the addition of a pair of Garrett turbochargers, the S7 Twin Turbo supplied one of the fastest cars that money could buy, with even more horsepower, torque, and speed. Horsepower was raised to 750, and the car was fitted with new front and rear fenders, along with a slightly revised aerodynamics package. The car’s performance was nothing short of ludicrous, boasting a 0–60 mph time of 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 248 mph.

Of the 13 S7 Twin Turbos produced for the 2006 model year, the example offered here is one of the last, and therefore one of the very last S7s ever built. Finished new in Lizstick Red, it was acquired by its current owner from the gentleman who purchased the car new. Today, it is presented in absolutely factory-fresh condition and is said to exhibit exceptional build quality throughout. Having only traveled just over 300 miles from new, it is undoubtedly one of the lowest-mileage examples in existence. Last serviced in May of 2016, it still retains its original window sticker, as well as its luggage set and car cover.

Both today and when it was new, the Saleen S7 stood proud against Europe’s supercar establishment as a fully American supercar. Still incredibly fast even by today’s lofty standards, the Saleen S7 has already proven to be a highly coveted and collectible automobile and will surely only garner more attention in the future. One would be hard-pressed to find a more pristine example than that offered here, which has been carefully preserved by only two private owners and driven just over 300 miles… thus far!
